A proud and passionate Nelsonian, Val has worked in a variety of areas. Her early training and qualifications were in the field of Amenity Horticulture and Gardening, including working in public parks and sports grounds, local high school grounds, and eventually running her own garden maintenance business.
An avid sportswoman, Val has represented Nelson in multiple sports over the years, extending her achievements to international status in both football and lawn bowls. She still currently represents New Zealand in lawn bowls, amassing over 20 years’ international experience and 650 test caps for her country, accumulating multiple Commonwealth Games and World Championship medals, including gold!
Her sporting career earned her a contract with a Sydney Bowling Club where she spent six and a half years. On return to Nelson, she took up the role of Operations Manager at Nelson Bays Football before joining A-Temp as a recruitment consultant.
